Privacy Policy

This Privacy Policy governs the manner in which Knorum, Inc.(“Knorum”) collects, uses, maintains and discloses information collected from users ("User") of the ‘Ask a Stranger’ application (“Application”). This privacy policy applies to all products and services offered in the Application.

“Personal Information” as used in this Policy, is information that specifically identifies an individual, such as an individual’s name, address, telephone number, or e-mail address. Personal Information also includes information about an individual’s activities, such as information about his or her activity on our Services, and demographic information, such as date of birth, gender, geographic area, and preferences, when any of this information is linked to Personal Information that identifies that individual.
Personal Information does not include “aggregate” or other non-personally identifiable information. Aggregate information is information that we collect about a group or category of products, services, or users that is not personally identifiable or from which individual identities are removed. We may use and disclose aggregate information, and other non-personally identifiable information, for various purposes.

We collect your Personal Information when you give it to us or give us permission to obtain it, when you use the Application on mobile devices, and by default when you use our Services. The types of Personal Information collected may include your name, email address, Facebook usernames and use information regarding your use of our Service. We automatically receive your location when you use the Service. (We use location services of the applicable operating system.)
3.1. The Personal Information you provide us is used for such purposes as allowing you to set up a user account and profile that can be used to interact with other users through the Service, improving the content of the Service, customizing the advertising and content you and your friends see, and communicating with you about specials and new features. We may also draw upon this Personal Information in order to adapt the Services of our community to your needs, to research the effectiveness of our network and Services, and to develop new tools for the community.
3.2. Information collected automatically. When you use the Service, Knorum automatically receives and records information on our server logs from your mobile platform, including your location, and the user transaction you requested. We treat this data as non-Personal Information, except where we are required to do otherwise under applicable law. Unless otherwise stated in this Privacy Policy, Knorum only uses this data in aggregate form. We may provide aggregate information to our partners about how our users, collectively, use our Service, so that our partners may also understand how often people use their services and our Service.
3.3. Interactive Functionality: Our Services contain interactive functionality that allows you to engage with other users on the Services, ask questions, answer questions, chat, upload photographs and other content (the “User Materials”), and otherwise to interact with the Services and with other users. If you use any interactive functionality on our Services that request or permit you to provide us with personal information (including, for example, if you post an image or text to the Services that includes Personal Information), we collect the Personal Information that you provide to us in the course of using these interactive features.

4. USE OF YOUR PERSONAL INFORMATION: We use the Personal Information we collect to
(i) provide the Services;
(ii) enhance, improve, operate, and maintain our Services, our programs, services, and other systems;
(iii) offer you a customized experience, including routing of user questions that you may be ideally suited to answer;
(iv) send you messages that may be of interest to you, such as notices of particular activity on the Services, newsletters, and promotional materials;
(v) respond to messages from you;
(vi) make it easier for your friends and contacts from third party services such as Facebook to locate you and find content you post to the Application;
(vii) prevent fraudulent use of our Services and other systems;
(viii) prevent or take action against activities that are, or may be, in violation of our
Terms and Conditions or applicable law;
(ix) maintain a record of our dealings with you;
(x) for other administrative purposes; and
(xi) for any other purposes that we may disclose to you at the point at which we request your Personal Information, and pursuant to your consent.
If you delete the Application from your mobile device, we will retain your Personal Information in order to satisfy our legal obligations, or where we reasonably believe that we have a legitimate reason to do so.

Personal Information about our users is an integral part of our business. We neither rent nor sell your Personal Information to anyone, though, your publicly-available information is available to third parties, and we may provide it to third parties, by license or otherwise. Knorum may share your Personal Information only as described in this Privacy Policy and related documents.
5.1. Strangers: Other users can see, for example, the username, avatar, question and chat messages you write. Individuals reading this information may use it or disclose it to other individuals or entities without our control and without your knowledge. We therefore urge you to think carefully about including any specific information you may deem private in communications or other content (location or otherwise) that you create in the Service.
5.2. Publicly Available Information: When you use the Application, certain information may be public, such as your public user profile information, avatar, photos and may be searchable by search engines and be shared with or disclosed to third parties to a wide range of users and services. We may also share or disclose aggregated and anonymous data to third parties for analytical or other purposes.

The Application deals with location, so in order to work, the Application needs to know your location. Whenever you open and use/interact with the Application on your mobile device, we use the location information from your mobile device (e.g., latitude and longitude) to tailor the user experience to your current location (i.e., we’ll show you how many other users can help you at your location). This information is NOT shared with others.

The Application includes several features that may allow you to share your information with others. Please remember that if you choose to provide personal information using certain features of the Service, that information may be available to the wider ‘Ask a Stranger’ community and may be indexed by third party search engines.

8.1. Business Transfers: If part or all of Knorum’s assets are acquired, or in the unlikely event that Knorum goes out of business or enters bankruptcy, user information would be one of the assets that is transferred or acquired by a third party.
8.2. Protection of Knorum and Others: We may release Personal Information when we believe in good faith that release is necessary to comply with the law, including laws outside your country of residence; enforce or apply our conditions of use and other agreements; or protect the rights, property, or safety of Knorum, our employees, our users, or others. This includes exchanging information with other companies and organizations (including outside of your country of residence) for fraud protection and risk reduction.

If you do not want to receive activity notifications from us, please modify your account settings once you're logged into the Application. Please note legal notices from us, such as notices regarding this Privacy Policy will not be sent to you but those legal notices will still govern your use of the Application, and you are responsible for reviewing such legal notices for changes once every month.

We may work with advertisers or other partners and advertising service providers to serve ads or services to mobile phones or other devices, which may use a cookie, pixel or other similar technology placed by Knorum or the third party (although we would not share any other information that identifies you with an advertiser). This Privacy Policy covers the use of cookies by Knorum and its service providers and does not cover the use of cookies by any advertisers. Certain versions of the iOS operating system permit you to limit ad tracking in the system settings.

Should you ever decide to delete your ‘Ask a Stranger’ account, you may do so by clicking on the ‘delete account’ menu in the ‘account settings’ under your ‘profile’ screen. If you terminate your account, your profile, including your places, messages, badges, etc. will be marked as deleted on Knorum’s servers. Even after you remove information from your account or profile, copies of that information may remain viewable elsewhere, to the extent it has been shared with others. However, your information will be excluded from new transactions.

12.1. Your Application account Personal Information is protected by a password for your privacy and security. You need to prevent unauthorized access to your account and Personal Information by selecting and protecting your password appropriately, and limiting access to your device.
12.2. Knorum endeavors to safeguard user information to ensure that user account information is kept private. However, Knorum cannot guarantee the security of user account information. Unauthorized entry or use, hardware or software failure, and other factors, may compromise the security of user information at any time. You transmit information to us at your own risk.

We do allow adult content in the Application, however such content has to be tagged accordingly. Adult content is only shared with users that have explicitly confirmed their appropriate age. If you believe that someone is misusing this policy please report it via the Application.

We may modify this Policy in our discretion at any time. If we modify this Policy, we will post the new policy or any changes on the website. We encourage you to monthly review this Policy to stay informed about how we collect, use, and disclose personal information.
